I began my career in 1962 as an apprentice Joiner and worked for a few years in the trade then an opportunity presented itself to become a bonus surveyor for a local company for a few years.
This developed my business mind to go it alone as a builder Joiner, I built a 4 bedroom house for an architect and several other jobs before I decided to enter into Lecturing, my first full time appointment was at Southend College where I spent 8 Years and also took the Chartered Institute of Building Exams and obtained the Bronze medal for Construction Management from the total of 2842 candidates worldwide mine was judged to be the best set of papers.
I also got the Certificate in Education at Anglia University
I then decided to move to Barking College and taught the HNC/HND/CIOB in building along with many other courses.
I also went on to do 2 weeks on a student exchange with France (Arras) which was an experience never to forget, this lead to more European exchanges for staff and students over a few years with visits to Milan, Rome, Colleferro, Sicily, Holland, Austria, France, Belgium which was extraordinary for me meeting so many staff and students from these areas. These memories will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I then retired in 2000 due to 2 sessions of flight induced Thrombosis and did nothing for 3 years.
Then I started with a colleague a training company specialising in Electrical and Health and Safety which after a slow start was terrific so much so that I began another training company of my own on my 65th birthday and retired from the original one.
The story so far, I have operated this for 11 years with mixed success and now want to reduce the daily stress working with awarding bodies and the examination etc and paperwork, so my new venture is to be more online than any of the other ways of delivery and hopefully will last until dementia kicks in or something else.
